Iron Milk Caseinate -A Novel Food Authorized for Market Placement within the European Union

The European Commission (EC) has granted authorization for the placement of iron milk caseinate on the market. This authorization comes as iron milk caseinate is included in the Union list of novel foods, as outlined in Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470.

In line with this regulation, the Annex to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470 has been amended accordingly. The exclusive authorization to market this novel food within the EU has been granted to 'Société des Produits Nestlé S.A.' for a duration of five years, starting from June 4, 2023. However, another applicant may obtain authorization for the same novel food if they do so without relying on the protected scientific data specified in Article 3 or with the agreement of 'Société des Produits Nestlé S.A.
