FSANZ reviewing regulatory requirements for infant formula through Proposal P1028

April 26, 2023

The Australian and New Zealand Food Standards Authority (FSANZ) has evaluated a proposal to revise the Code's regulations on Infant formula products and has drafted a food regulatory measure spanning four Standards and five Schedules.

It aims to reform and clarify standards for baby formula products, including their regulatory structure, composition, labeling, category definitions, and representation.

The Food Standards (Proposal P1028 - Infant Formula) Variation and the Food Standards (Proposal P1028 - Infant Formula - Consequential Amendments) Variation were completed by FSANZ in June 2022 following a first round of required public consultation.

This paper summarizes the main findings and FSANZ's rationale for drafting the proposed changes to the Code. The submission deadline is July 7, 2023.
