New limit of trans fatty acids to 2% of total fats published by The Argentinian Secretariat of Agriculture and Health

May 16, 2023

The Secretariat of Quality in Health and the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries have collaborated to publish Joint Resolution 16/2023.

This Resolution will change the wording of Article 155 tris of the Argentine Food Code such that it reads as follows: "Article 155 tris: The content of industrially produced trans fatty acids in foods, including those used as ingredients and raw materials, shall not exceed 2% of total fats."

These restrictions do not apply to fats derived from ruminants, such as the fat found in milk. It is against the law to make use of fats and oils that have been partially hydrogenated in the manufacturing of foods, ingredients, and raw materials.
