Brazil formulates requirements for the use of food additives such as propylene glycol in some foods

Instruction IN N° 221 was published in the Brazilian Government Gazette on April 24, 2023. 

This instruction was released in order to amend the legislation of food additives by specifically establishing requirements for the utilization of a variety of food additives such as propylene glycol in certain foods. Some of them are mentioned as below. The date of publication is the starting point for compliance with this Directive.

Food Additives: Propylene Glycol, Potassium diacetate, Polyglyceric acid ricinoleate, Rosemary extract are permitted with maximum dosage of 1500, 1000, 5000, 50 and 200 respectively (mg/kg or mg/L)
