The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry has initiated public consultations on the development of a draft law focusing on official controls in the agro-food sector. The objective of this project is to enhance the national regulatory framework for conducting official controls throughout the agri-food chain. The proposed law aims to ensure the safety and quality of food products, protect human, animal, and plant health, animal welfare, and the environment from risks associated with genetically modified organisms and plant protection products. The draft law covers various areas such as food safety, GMO release, feed safety, animal health, animal by-products, animal welfare, plant protection measures, pesticide use, organic production, and labeling of geographical indications and traditional specialties. Public input is invited until May 03, 2023.
