EFSA Panel Establishes Tolerable Upper Intake Level for Vitamin B6

The EFSA Panel on Nutrition, Novel Foods and Food Allergens (NDA) has provided a scientific opinion on the tolerable upper intake level (UL) for vitamin B6, in response to a request from the European Commission. The UL is established based on the well-known association between excessive vitamin B6 intake and the development of peripheral neuropathy.

Based on available intake data, it is unlikely that EU populations will exceed the ULs, except for individuals who regularly use high-dose vitamin B6 supplements. The establishment of ULs aims to ensure safe and appropriate vitamin B6 intake among different population groups.
