East African Community drafts Soya protein products Specification

Development of the East African Standards has been necessitated by the need for harmonizing requirements governing quality of products and services in the East African Community. This draft East African Standard DEAS 801:2022 specifies the requirements sampling and test methods for soya protein products intended for human consumption. In preparation of this standard assistance was derived from: Codex Standard 175, General Standard for Soy Protein Products. This standard has been developed to ensure the safety and quality of edible full fat soya flour for human consumption.  It provides the details such as definitions, General requirements, Specific requirements, Food ingredients, Sampling, Hygiene, Contaminants such as Pesticide residues, Heavy metals, Packing, Labelling. It is open for comments till 19/02/2023
