Argentina: Frontal food labeling law with special requirements for ultraprocessed food effective from August 2022

As per the 'Law of Frontal Labeling of Food' passed in the Argentine Parliament in October 2021, packaged ultra-processed foods must display a label in the form of a black octagon that occupies at least 5% of the surface of the container and that warns about its high content of sugars, potassium, saturated fats or calories, among other elements. Foods that include the label may not be promoted with images of children, celebrities or offer gifts or surprises. Some of its provisions will be effective from August 2022 but many other provisions of this law will be effective by November 2023.
