May 17, 2023

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) in South Korea has detected a Japanese health functional food called "Umaregawaru (Bloom like a flower) (item: Vitamin B1)" containing a prohibited ingredient. The ingredient in question is Thai kudzu (scientific name: Pueraria mirifica), which is known to have potential side effects such as uterus enlargement. Although it is used in Japan on a limited basis, the MFDS has warned against its consumption. The implicated product was imported by Dongwoo CM Co., Ltd. and Odd Lab Bio Corporation, both located in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul.

In response, the MFDS has taken swift action to recall the product from the market. They urge consumers who have purchased the product to cease consumption immediately and return it to the place of purchase. The ministry emphasizes the importance of consumer safety and encourages the public to report any illegal activities related to food by contacting the designated junk food reporting phone number, 1399.
