Brazil: ANVISA draft Resolution proposes revision in limits for food contact materials

In a draft resolution proposing to amend the Collegiate Board Resolution - RDC No. 20, of March 22, 2007, and the Collegiate Board Resolution - RDC No. 498, of May 20, 2021, multiple revisions are proposed for packaging, utensils, lids and equipment intended to come in contact with food. One of the proposed provision is that the metallic materials may not contain more than 1% of impurities consisting of lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury and antimony taken together. The individual limit for arsenic, mercury and lead cannot be greater than 0.01%
