Ukrainian health ministry publishes Draft Order on the requirements for materials and articles which contain vinyl chloride and are intended to come into contact with foodstuffs

November 4, 2022

The draft order allows the approval of safety indicators for materials and items containing vinyl chloride that are intended to come into contact with food. The draft order's requirements state that materials and items cannot contain more vinyl chloride monomer than is allowed—one milligramme per kilogramme of material or an item, which is the maximum permissible level. There must be no detectable vinyl chloride in any materials or items that contact food. The purpose of the draft order is to implement Council Directive 78/142/EEC of January 30, 1978, which seeks to harmonise the laws of the member states with regard to materials and items that include vinyl chloride monomer and are intended to come into contact with food. The draft order was notified to WTO on November 04, 2022 (Notification number: G/SPS/N/UKR/191).
