On August 16, 2022, Ukraine’s Ministry of Health issued three draft Orders to regulate food contact substances for packaging materials like ceramics, plastics, elastomer and rubber teats. The order proposes prohibition on 2,4,4’-trichloro-2-hydroxydiphenyl ether (Triclosan; used as a preservative and antimicrobial agent) in the manufacture of food contact plastics. It also specifies migration requirements of lead and cadmium (heavy metal contaminants) in ceramic materials coming in contact with food. The restriction is also proposed for N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances (preservatives) which applies from January 01, 2024.
