US FDA continues to receive questions from food facilities regarding registration fees or use third-party businesses to register with FDA

April 26, 2023

FDA explains in answer to those inquiries that there is no price associated with registering a food facility with FDA and that registrants are not obliged to engage a third-party company or "registrar" to register their facilities with FDA.

Additionally, FDA is aware that private companies provide services to food facilities (like U.S. agent listing and registration renewal services). It is totally up to the food facility and the individual who accepts to act as the food facility's U.S. Agent to decide whether to charge U.S. Agents for their services.

FDA wants to remind registrants that these private companies are not associated with FDA and do not speak or act on FDA's behalf. Food facilities that are required to register with FDA must register directly with FDA electronically or by mail or fax. There is no fee to register with FDA.

Food facilities do not need a certificate of registration. FDA does not issue a certificate of registration or product status (e.g., low acid canned food), nor does FDA recognize a certificate of registration or product status issued by a private business.
