Health Canada Plans to update infant formula and other foods for special dietary purposes regulations

The purpose of this notice is to announce the strategy that Health Canada will be using to continue addressing shortages of infant formula and other foods for a special dietary purpose.

This strategy will involve extending the Interim policy on the importation and sale of infant formulas, human milk fortifiers, and dietary products for the treatment of inborn errors of metabolism in order to mitigate shortages.

This notice also communicates Health Canada's commitment to begin work on the modernization of the regulations for infant formula and other foods for a specific dietary purpose, as well as the department's intentions for a public consultation in the fall of 2023. Lastly, this notice informs the public of the department's plans to hold a meeting to discuss the matter.
