Indonesia Publishes a List of Probiotic Microorganisms Allowed in Processed Food

Indonesia publishes a decree which lists different kinds of microorganisms that can be utilised as raw materials in processed foods if they meet the standards.
-The listed probiotic microorganisms are :
-1. Bacillus coagulans
-2. Bifidobacterium animalis
-3. Bifidobacterium breve
-4. Bifidobacterium lactis
-5. Bifidobacterium longum
-6. Lactobacillus acidophilus
-7. Lactobacillus casei
-8. Lactobacillus fermentum
-9. Lactobacillus lactis
-10. Lactobacillus paracasei
-11. Lactobacillus plantarum
-12. Lactobacillus reuteri
-13. Lactobacillus rhamnosus
-14. Leuconostoc citreum
-15. Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus
-16. Streptococcus salivarius subsp. thermophilus.
-In addition, it establishes 1 x 106 CFU/g or CFU/ml as the minimum overall microbial count.
-It is applicable to all processed food except Food Category 13.0 Processed Food for Special Nutritional Purposes (PKGK).
-This decree came into effect on 7 February 2023.
