Minnesota proposes ban on PFAS in certain products

Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is an abbreviation for a wide category of synthetic organic compounds. 

Manufacturers of products containing PFAS that are sold, offered for sale, or distributed in Minnesota would be required, under the proposed legislation, to submit to the Commissioner of the Pollution Control Agency, no later than January 1, 2026, information on the product - 

 - including a brief description and numeric product code, the purpose for which PFAS was used in the product or any of its components, the quantity and CAS no. (a substance-speech identifier) of any PFAS used in the product or any If the manufacturer needs more time to prepare the application, the Commissioner can give them it. 

The Commissioner may demand testing and reporting of findings within 30 days if it is suspected that an unreported product contains PFAS that were added intentionally.
