FSSAI amends standards of various products in Food Products Standards and Food Additives regulations.

FSSAI amended the standards for Sheep Milk, oils, Desiccated coconut, Wheat Flour or Resultant Wheat flour, Millets, Mithun (Bos frontalis), Dried Sweet Marjoram, Coconut Neera, Liquid nitrogen dosing in ‘Natural Mineral Water’ and ‘Packaged Drinking Water’, Substances added to Food, Microbiological Standards etc. These regulations may be called the Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Second Amendment Regulations, 2023.
The key amendments are:
1. Microbiological Standards for Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, Functional Food and Novel Food
2. Entry of Sheep milk in Full Cream Milk
3. Absorbency in ultra-violet K270 of different oils and specifications like Saponification Value, Iodine Value, Acid Value and flash point of oils.
4. Descriptions of Wheat Flour (Atta) and Resultant Wheat Flour (Resultant Atta) came into form with its chemical and microbial requirements
5. physical and chemical parameters of different millets are given.
6. In sub-regulation 2.10.6 relating to Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Coconut Neera was added.
This regulation comes into force on September 01, 2023.
