FDA Seeks Input on Petition to Repeal the Use of Titanium Dioxide in Foods

The FDA has initiated the regulatory process to consider the repeal of section 73.575, which allows the use of titanium dioxide as a food additive. A petition has been submitted citing concerns about its safety, including an opinion by EFSA. The FDA invites comments and scientific data to aid their decision-making process. If justified, the decision to discontinue the use of titanium dioxide will be published in the Federal Register.

Either electronic or written comments must be submitted by July 3, 2023.
