Colorado joins in to restrict weight management supplements

March 14, 2023

Colorado is the most recent state to propose legislation aimed at limiting access to weight management products, following similar initiatives in Maryland, California, New York, and other places.

The proposed law would prohibit anyone under the age of 18 from purchasing over-the-counter diet pills or nutritional additives for weight reduction.

The measures are the result of comparable initiatives over the past 12 months in states like California, New York, and New Jersey. The initiatives in California and New York were approved by the state legislatures but eventually rejected by the leaders of those states.

Similar legislation asking for limiting kids' access to weight-loss medications or nutritional additives was recently submitted in Maryland. The legislation makes no effort to control supplements that promote muscular growth.
