Bi-partisan house bills re-introduced in the U.S. House to regulate hemp-derived CBD products

March 17, 2023

Two bills were reintroduced on March 17, 2023, in the U.S. House that would compel the Food and Drug Administration to regulate cannabidiol (CBD) produced from hemp.

The CBD Product Safety and Standardization Act of 2023 would establish regulations for CBD as a food and beverage additive, while the Hemp and Hemp-Derived CBD Consumer Protection and Market Stabilization Act of 2023 would subject hemp extract products to the regulatory framework for dietary supplements.

Following the FDA's recent statement requesting cooperation from Congress to create a regulatory structure for CBD, the bills have now been filed.
