In China, a food product is regulated under NMPA- National Medical Products Association, formerly known as CFDA (China Food and Drug Administration). The State Administration also examines the regulation of food products for Market Regulation SAMR. There is a sharing of responsibilities by State and provincial as well as municipal and county-level authorities.
In China, before registering any food product, an active filling number is issued. To register Novel foods that are not commonly consumed in China, the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) must have approval. For food labeling in China, it is primarily governed by Administrative Measures of Food Labeling. Each label must cover the product’s name, address, and contact information of the manufacturer, the production, the expiration date and the ingredient list.
